The Victims Assistance Program sits within the Mental Health, Family Violence and Community Outreach directorate at DPV Health.

The Program aims are to:

  • provide quality services that support the needs of victims so they can recover and thrive
  • assist and advocate on behalf of victims navigating the criminal justice system to enable victims to be informed and empowered, and
  • establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery of seamless and accessible services to victims of crime

 

About the opportunity

This Victims Assistance Program (VAP) Senior Practitioner position will take a proactive role in providing:
intake, assessment (inclusive of risk assessments), psychoeducation and referral (including warm referrals) to allocated consumers inclusive of quality case management

  • support to consumers to develop a personal recovery plan which includes a safe and planned exit
  • secondary consults and mentoring to support staff when working with complex clients
  • delivery of high-quality trauma informed brief intervention and intensive therapeutic case management services (including assertive outreach) using a high throughput model
  • community education activities that promote and inform others about VAP.

To be successful for this role, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or relevant and related discipline;
  • Minimum several years’ experience in providing clinical and line supervision to staff within the community sector in a trauma related area;
  • Demonstrated experience providing advice and direction for staff and students on complex matters including, crisis intervention, comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning, timely and considered decision making, and planning to respond to clients’ needs with demonstrated practice in providing trauma-based interventions;
  • Ability to model positive, flexible, and dynamic skills to support and develop a team of workers to inspire vision, direction, and professional conduct.;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport and foster harmonious and collaborative relationships internally and with external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated resilience and aptitude in working with complex and important matters, sound judgement and ability to prioritise competing demands.

 

 

The fine print

  • Full-time position.  Fixed Term to June 2026
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check, International Police Check (if applicable), hold a valid WWCC.
  • Work-Life Balance: Hybrid work - home, in the office and at other locations
  • Provision of 4/52 leadership supervision with highly skilled external supervisor
